Practical extravagance

Creative Director Jonathan Anderson is one of the few designers who one can always count on to consistently present a rollout of innovative and interesting silhouettes and the latest JW Anderson women’s Spring Summer 2021 collection was no different. Regardless of the current state of the pandemic driven world, Anderson managed to find the creativity and inspiration to craft a collection that was completely created from locally sourced resources during lockdown. One of the key parts of the collection is the variation of interesting silhouettes that exist with most being brought out through asymmetrically draped tops, puffed volumes and peculiar tailoring that although are quite particular and still very flattering. Anderson describes the creation of the collection as finding a mid-ground between extravagance and practicality, through a collection that combined both high glamour and wearability . It included asymmetric ponchos , jacquard peplum jacket looks, and accessories like his classic nano cap bag , asymmetric bucket hat, basket bags among others. One of the beauties of the collection was the keen attention paid to details as each piece was intricately made to celebrate the work of local artisans . “The clothes are beautifully made. I have a fantastic team. I like the purity of it. Beautifully made clothes, made in England—it’s really homing in on what we do well,” he commented in an interview.
