Moncler 1017 ALYX 9SM
In the latest release of the Moncler Genius collection series, the house taps Matthew Williams of 1017 ALYX 9SM for a joint collection dubbed Moncler 1017 ALYX 9SM. As one who has been a champion of the new age of streetwear, Williams is known for creating sleek designs that stylise functionality in ways that are minimalistic while remaining trendy. For the past few seasons his work at 1017 ALYX 9SM has been about creating a bridge between craftsmanship and technology. With this collection he christens his key design qualities in the house of Moncler by way of fusing them with those of Moncler. In the collection, sleek tailoring, laser cut seams and uniform colour palettes meet the outdoor spirits of Moncler. Throughout the collection Williams carries out his research of garment dyeing by applying it to duvet and creating a broad palette of neutrals and black that were initially organic fabrics treated to have a technical effect. It features a line-up of padded and non-padded outerwear that plays both with ideas of matte and shiny through parkas, trench coats, sleek trousers, cropped blouses, and leggings. Recycled nylon laqué and other manipulation techniques are implemented and a special puffer jacket even includes dust coating embellished by Swarovski. Sustainable fabrics also play a major part as tights and tops are crafted from Econyl — a regenerated nylon derived from ocean land based waste. Hi-impact accessories and Williams’ signature hardware punctuate the collection with belts, gloves and hats created with the same je ne sais quoi of the meeting of both worlds reflected throughout the collection.
