Vetements FW20 was the first show since the departure of former creative director Demna Gvasalia and the dawn of the takeover of his brother, co-founder of the brand Guram Gvasalia. For this reason, he wanted to go back to basics by focusing on the key values that the brand was built on. This season the show was built with the intent of redirecting the spotlight on the clothes. “Somehow in fashion, the spotlight went away from the clothes, and for me this is why people like Margiela are so iconic because he never appeared and was always about the clothes,” he explained. Throughout the show, several signature Vetements codes were showcased: thigh high flame printed boots, ironic slogans, hoodies and t-shirts with comedic logos, some with signs that said “NO SOCIAL MEDIA THANK YOU,” as well branded pieces with the signature Vetements allover logo. According to Gvasalia , this season’s collection was all about focusing on the tailoring while playing with the brand’s method of fake & real, not just with designs but even with models who were the lookalike of a few celebrities. Each piece from the collection seemed like a bit of an experiment with modern day tailoring , each one proposing something new, fresh and interesting, while keeping the identity of the brand intact.
