Saint Laurent FW21 - Raw Unvarnished Beauty

For Fall Winter 2021 Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello looked to the brand’s archives as he was specifically drawn to Yves Saint Laurent’s elegant tailleurs from the mid ‘60s that were originally rendered in menswear fabric. For the collection however, Vaccarello gave this his own modern twist with short skirts, and asymmetrical cut jackets with a vibrant colour palette of gold, silver violet and chartreuse, that gave nods to the 60s and 80s. “It’s the shapes of the ’60s with the colours of the ’80s,” the designer explained. The collection was the perfect mixture of classic and kitsch with an abundance of jewellery including chandelier earrings, bracelets and chokers pairing with metallic bodysuits and tiny leather skirts worn under the tailor suits. This collection was simply about celebrating an imperfect unpolished beauty, merging an aesthetic of elegance and trashy and making it into something fresh and contemporary with appearances of fake fur, leather and intricate embroideries that tell a story of the modern Saint Laurent girl who is fun and playful in the way she dresses, without worrying too much about the aspects of beauty, perfection or precision.
