In second collaboration, Owens pulls the Converse Weapon out of the ‘80s archive and into another dimension with exaggerated proportions and distorted lines. Rick Owens continues his confident contortion of cultural signifiers as he presents a DRKSHDW interpretation of the Converse Weapon The TURBOWPN, a bombastic take on the Weapon, is elevated through Owens’minimalist yet maximalist footwear aesthetic-most notably distorting and exaggerating proportions while honoring iconic details. Conjugating the iconic outsole of the Weapon, the TURBOWPN sits on a revamped tread. The outsole nearly doubles in proportion to create a platform stance, while the interior of the silhouette hosts a CX foam drop-in for comfort. Crafted in premium cowhide leather, with a subtly reinforced toe box and wide lace, the TURBOWPN also continues design articulations first seen in the TURBODRK Chuck 70–an elongated tongue and with stitched detail. While Owens brings the Weapon into his stark universe, complete with DRKSHDW iconography, the silhouette’s notable markers –including the midsole design lines, Y-bar, heel cap and quarter panel upper design –remain reflective of the original. The Weapon debuted on the NBA court nearly 40 years ago, a vanguard of Converse’s technical innovation of the time and notable signifier at the heart of iconic on-court rivalries of the late 80s. Available in a black colorway that mirrors the silhouette’s original debut and underscore Owens’ approach to modernist minimalism and contemporary luxury.
